WAFLA Consortium Technical Meeting

The WAFLA Consortium Technical Meeting took place on June 2nd – 4th, 2008 in Lima city, Peru. People who represent the institutions that are involved in the WAFLA Project were there with the aim of discussing about the next methodologies and general considerations for the development of the Work Packages 3 (Processing, marketing, trade and institutional frame), 4 (Coordination of research, technology development and cooperation), 5 (Future strategies for implementation) and 6 (Integrated agroforestry / water management extension and dissemination programme).

Once the Work Package 2 was concluded, it is necessary to make a review of the tasks that the third work package contains and that have already been developed so far, that way it is possible to know the established bases so that the work can be continued. During three days of Technical Meeting and two days of Pre-workshops, WAFLA partners had the opportunity of setting out their progress and their ideas related to the methodological implementation that is supposed to be followed in order to reach the development of the next tasks. The above mentioned Pre-workshops took place with the purpose of exposing the best agroforestry systems that have been studied in the targeted regions that had been selected through the tasks of the second work package.

The event host was the Arid Regions Investigations Center in the ‘Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina’ (CIZA-UNALM, Lima-Peru), where the biologists Juan Jesús Torres Guevara and Fabiola Guzmán were behind the event organization, including all the extra-curricular activities that made possible the integration and the close contact with the culture of the host country. A nice evening took place in “Brisas del Titicaca” and a regional dancing group joined the event during its last day.
